Vehicle Enforcement

Technical Sheet No.5

In tolling applications, toll enforcement is carried out by taking pictures of the license plate of offending vehicles. The Vehicle Enforcement System (VES) used for this process requires a camera trigger to capture a photograph of a violator's number plate. In order to maximise the capture rate of license plates the trigger position must be precise in all traffic conditions and for all vehicle types. Idris® has the ability to provide this type of trigger. The Idris trigger accuracy is better than ±30cm but typically accurate to ±15cm for all vehicle speeds, from stop-go to high speed (>100mph) and for all vehicle types from the smallest car to the largest lorry (truck). This ability to provide an accurate trigger applies equally in single and multi-lane environments.

Idris is spatially aware
Idris can trigger a Vehicle Enforcement System (VES) by a digital (pulse) or over a serial interface. Idris provides event identification to the lane controller for the trigger as well as vehicle data messages. This ensures the lane controller has the necessary information to associate the correct license plate image to the relevant vehicle data.

Idris knows at all times when vehicles within its sensors purview are created - both along the road and across the road. We say that Idris is ''spatially aware''. Idris uses its knowledge to precisely route triggers, both in time (along the road) and with straddle and lane information (across the road).
