ITPs Supply Florida'sTurnpike Enterprise
Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise (FTE) is embarking on a major revamping project to convert and upgrade over 500 miles of roadways. FTE manages a 612-mile system of limited-access tollhighways. The current toll system is a hybrid consisting of lane-based cash and electronic tolling elements. The ambitious new toll system replacement project being carried out will include somewhere in the region of 835 lanes of tolling from manual to high speed ORT. The specified Idris AVC technology will be implemented in toall lanes including approximately 400 lanes of “pre-classification tolling”.
This is a key technical achievement for DCS and Idris with the introduction to Florida of Idris pre-class systems for automatic vehicle classification (AVC).This system will provide for automatic cash payment for out of state visitors and electronic toll collection, (ETC –Sun Pass) for the convenience of in-state residents and frequent visitors. Idris will help to reduce congestion, increase throughput leading to increased revenue, whilst increased automation will lead to significantly reduced operator costs.
