Illinois Update
Since the summer of 2005, the Illinois Tollway has been converting 20 mainline toll plazas to Open Road Tolling (ORT) for I-PASS travel at highway speed. The AVC technology used in the ORT lanes is Idris and we have been following the progress of the conversions through a series of articles published in ITS International. Looking backover the last twelve months, the Tollway has progressed its road to congestion relief at a record pace!
The most recently published article looks at the current status of the project as well as how the Tollway managed those very important and influential people,“the road users”. The article explains how the Tollway maintained public approval and customer satisfaction during the conversion work. Public perception is public communication and one aspect of a new highway project that receives little acknowledgment from within the industry, and is a major component, is the project’s communication plan.
The complete article may be found published in ITS International and is the second in a series of feature articles following the progress of ORT deployment by the Illinois Tollway.
