Idris continues to work the world over: 20 years and going strong!
As Idris celebrates 20 years, the technology took its first steps into China at th
e end of March (a fitting venture as porcelain china represents 20 years within traditional anniversary celebrations!).
Idris ITP, Nortech International, in conjunction with Beijing Navigator Technologies, have carried out a successful trial of high accuracy vehicle classification for tolling on the Hebei Shi-huang Expressway in Hebei Province of China.
Nortech, together with its local distributor Beijing Navigator Technologies (BNT), and supported by DCS, undertook the installation of the IDR206, rack mounted hardware, with Idris AT600 to classify vehicles according to the specifications released by the China Ministry of Transportation and National Development and Reform Committee. This trial entailed the accurate classification of vehicles in 5 classes determined by the number of axles, number of wheels per axle and axle base.
The AT600 system was chosen due to its superior profile, axle and length classification capabilities. The system copes with congestion and is able to distinguish between towing and tailgating vehicles due to its unique straddling algorithm. Highly accurate vehicle separation is achieved, even with poor lane discipline in multi-lane express toll installations. The results of this project will be closely monitored by some of China’s leading transportation experts. The expected high-precision traffic data and vehicle classification acquisition, combined with the existing toll road system, will increase the work efficiency, achieve precise tolling and eliminate fraud.
