Florida's Pre-Class

DCS and their ITP – ACS State & Local Solutions, have been working together on the development of a new pre-class tolling solution for ACS logodeployment on Florida's Turnpike.

The development program for the system reached an important milestone in October this year when it moved out of the lab and into the field for the first time.  A single lane test site has been constructed by ACS at their facility in Crofton, Maryland – USA and DCS staff were on hand to supervise the layout and installation of the loops; they were even seen sticking down loops in 90 degree heat! The test site is an exact replica of a real lane and contains all of the advanced sensing and enforcement systems which will be deployed to the FTE sites starting spring 2008.

The new X86 powered Nortech  detector rack integrated into the ACS cabinet without any problems and was commissioned to work with the finalised loop layout. The Nortech TD724's proved simple to use and tuning of the loops, to minimise noise, was easy due to the wide dynamic frequency range available in the TD724's.  The whole site was ready for the first vehicles in a matter of minutes.  The system test exercised the DCS/ACS software interface and verified that the two systems communicated correctly. Both companies are pleased to report the successful outcome of this important milestone in the development of an efficient and effective pre-classification system based on Idris technology.
