A weighty issue

Overloaded goods vehicles is a worldwide issue which costs the Governments millions each year.  Costs are incurred through road damage and accidents.  Overloaded vehicles damage not only roads, but bridges and underground services, producing a huge reduction in the roads life expectancy and increasing maintenance costs tenfold.  As a result many countries are now adopting a stringent enforcement policy to detect and prosecute overloaded trucks.  Fines, prohibitions and possible loss of licence are being used by many countries to deter offenders.  Axle weighing systems are now to be found adjacent to many motorways, ports, toll plazas and border crossings and are proving to be useful enforcement devices.  But, if axle weighing systems are to be used in this way they need to gather accurate information.  Providing fast and accurate data for the traffic industry is not a new concept for Idris and now this precision has been extended to include the Weigh-In-Motion (WIM) environment.

The new Idris enhanced low and high speed WIM systems are the result of a new partnership between Idris and Central Weighing Ltd.  This has allowed the very latest load cell and electronic technology to be combined with the world class Idris algorithm, resulting in accuracy levels never previously thought possible for a WIM system of this type.  Vehicles of any length and weight can be weighed “In Motion” in less than thirty seconds to high levels of accuracy.
